    Knitting Bad Luck

I have never heard these before, but came across them in one of my old knitting pattern books:

    • Stabbing your needles though your yarn balls brings bad luck to anyone who wears something made from that yarn. This seems to come from the fact that stabbing knitting needles into the yarn balls can damage the yarn.
    • The ease of the knitting reflects the personality of the recipient. The more troublesome and picky the recipient, the more difficulties there will be in knitting. This superstition responses with a person's personality being shown as they work on tasks.
    • It's bad luck to leave a project unfinished. The intended recipient will get bad luck from the unfinished item. The bad luck will come form the yarn's desire to be made into something special.

    Needles

    bamboo
You are bamboo. Warm, cozy, and thoughtful, you take your time and
enjoy how things feel, smell, and taste. You
love the craft and beauty of traditional
things, and you value the comfort and
experience of knitting as much as the results.
But while you are reveling in your warm cozies,
don't get stuck. Warm is wonderful, but so is
    the whole wide world!

What kind of knitting needles are you?

    Knit no-no

I know, I know, there hasn't been any blogging in a while.  I apologize to all 2 of my readers; myself and my mom.   I have been knitting.  I am almost done with a cropped sweater for a co-worker.  I say almost because I was done, and then she mentioned she wanted long sleeves, not short.  So I undid the 1” of cuff at the bottom of the sleeve, and was off and knitting again, until I ran out of yarn.

I am also almost done…with the sleeves of Shimmer from Knitty.

I am also almost done, (I’m right there!) with they Blue baby sweater.  All it needs is buttons.  But as I was digging around for the buttons, I came across those cranberry house socks I was working on.  All else was forgotten, and I did finish those last night!  And just in time too because nights are starting to get a little chilly, like sweatshirts in bed chilly.

I also spied a beautiful sweater on Anthropology.com that I decided to try my hand at.  So out came the crochet hook and some of Elann’s Peruvian Baby Silk yarn.  I am 99% sure that I figured out the correct stitch pattern, but will still be making some of my own design modifications.  I have about a foot of 1 sleeve done.  I have realized how much I have missed crocheting.

Thinking on that, I was cruising crafster when I came across this post: Voulez Vous Crochet Avec Moi? Call for submissions for next SnB bookI couldn’t believe it!  I have just known that crochet would be taking off again soon, I just knew it!  So now it is up to me to design and crochet something perfect and wonderful.  Talk about pressure!  I have wanted to design something to submit somewhere, and I think this is the somewhere.  I feel inspired!  Wish me luck!

    One Skein Wonder

Oh perfect article of clothing!  I am so glad I found you!

    One Skein Wonder

I have caught the one skein wonder fever!  Like I said before, I don't notice something till I am in the middle of it.  I found this pattern from Knit n' Tonic's blog, and suddenly it's everywhere.  I was cruising crafster and they have a KAL going for it, and it is up to 20 pages of forum chat!  WOW!

So, I have to have one for myself, and one for my sister, and one for my friend!

This is going to be ther perfect gift for my sister.  I am going to do it red, with black ribbing.  I am also going to chart out an Emily the Strange graphic and knit that in the back.  My first chart knitting project!

    Fin!

That's right!  I do is now I done!  I finished the second half last night and began to graft the two peices together.  Once I had finished grafting and light blocking, (1 1/2 hours later) I did a test fit.  The back was way to wide.  I had done the required amount of back repeats for the small, but it was falling off my shoulders, and the arms were way to long.  Being that it was 11:30 PM when I discovered this, I saved it for this morning.  I woke up early and ran a life line through both halves about 1 repeat in (9 rows).  Then during my morning break, I frogged back to the life lines.  I did a test fit (smart me, before I grafted this time!) and during lunch began grafting away.  I finished with 5 minutes of lunch to spare!  I wove in and secured all the ends, and ran up to my friend to present her with the shrug.  She was so thrilled!  It fits her perfectly!  She is going to share it with her daughter as well.

    Lesson learned, Test Fit!

    On to Shimmer!

    Shrug Fever!

I never realize a fashion trend till I am right in the middle of it.  Like the whole poncho thing.  I didn't realize they were so popular until I began searching for a pattern to knit up for myself.  Suddenly they were everywhere!  Not it's the shrugs turn.  Shrugs are everywhere.  Actually, I have noticed that they have also be catigorized as cropped cardigans.  What's up with that?

I do is coming along very nicely.  I have completed the first half of it!  This is such an easy pattern!  I promise to actually get photos this time before giving the item away.

As for Baby Blue, all that is needed are the buttons sewn on.  By the time I finish ths sweater, I don't think it will fit the kid anymore!

    I Do

No, I am not getting married.  Gezzz people. I'm only 22!  No I Do is the name of the shrug I am working on for a co-worker from Knitty.  I ordered some Debbie Bliss Cathay yarn for the project, and it knitted up spot-on to guage.  I am doing this shrug in black.

This is a super easy knit.  I decided to do one minor change, I am going to knit the arms narrow, instead of bell sleeves.  The pattern is easy to follow, and the nice thing about lace is your mistakes just blend right in, not that it stopped me from froging 3 rows when I realized I had skipped a stitch!

Next up will be Shimmer.  This is for the same co-worker.  This one will be done in white.  I was going to use Sugar n' cream cotton, but decided to try Lions Brand Microspun.  No working on Shimmer till I Do is done!

As for my feet fashions, socks have been put on hold for a bit.  The socks I worked so hard on to finish before seeing my cousins on the 4th, well they were too small.  So, I think I will give away the little heart socks and just start over with those, and I will frog the toe part of the purple/pink striped tennis socks and just make them longer.

T's sweater is still waiting patiently for me to notice it again and get working!  I also cast on for the Audrey sweater from Rowan.  Audrey may have to wait a few weeks for some more to be done.

If I can't blog about my knitting, I might as well read blogs about knitting

... and the evils of Knit Cults.  I didn't realize the extent of the problem.  So many of our youth lost to this cult: http://www.eyhom.com/cultofknit.html.

    Please, save one you love.

    It's been how long?

...Since I last posted in here?  Don't tell me it has been a month already!!!  Well, I have to admit I don't have much to show for this month.  You know those light blue socks I was working on for moi?  Frogged.  Gone.  The whole thing.  I realized the knit was too loose and it would keep falling down my ankle, and that look went out with the 80's (thanks be to Budda!).

And those carnberry colored house socks, but on the back knitter (burner=knitter, get it?).

And baby sweater, well forget about it!  I have only the arms to do, but can't seem to pick it up and finish it.

I have been working on some socks for my cousin's birthdays in June.  One is a pink pair with hearts all over, and the other is going to be purple.  I'm not sure of the pattern yet.  I did find this pair I am going to do next: http://www.spunmag.com/article/050605socks

Arn't those great?  I also splurged and bought the Argyle Sweater pattern from http://www.loop-d-loop.com

I'll let you know when I get the time to actually do these projects.  I still have to do my zipper sweater I bought from Elann.com.

I need six more hours in a day!
